Program Director, Mentorship
MollyAnn Avakian
My name is MollyAnn Avakian, and I’m one of the directors of the Air to Heart Mentorship Program. Growing up surrounded by the aviation industry, both of my parents spent their careers at United Airlines, and my brother now works for Alaska Airlines, aviation has always been a significant part of my life. I met my husband in college while he was furloughed, and we quickly bonded over our shared connection to the industry. With both his father and grandfather having been pilots, aviation runs deep in his family as well. Today, we’re raising our amazing son, who currently dreams of becoming Top Gun. If he chooses to pursue flying, he would proudly continue the tradition as a fourth-generation pilot. Being part of this incredible mentorship program feels both natural and truly meaningful to me. I’m especially passionate about thoughtfully pairing mentors and mentees in ways that foster trust, growth, and lasting relationships within the aviation community.

Parliamentarian
Charity Alcantra
My name is Charity Alcantara. I currently live in OKC but I was born in Superior, Wisconsin. I joined the Air Force at 19 years old serving for 10 years and then transitioned to Civil Service for an additional 8 years. I now teach Physical Education at a Classical Christian school in Oklahoma. We have 3 amazing kids; one in college and young twins at home. My husband is an FO on the Airbus based out of DFW. I am so excited to be a part of the A2H Foundation because I saw a need in families that we can help with. We can make a difference in the lives of other AA families. I am encouraged by what the vision is for this foundation and can’t wait to see what we will do in the future.

Ayden, Mikayla and Charlotte keep me on my toes! I do stay at home to wear all the hats, especially when Daddy travels. I do have a small business that I do part time, just as a creative outlet. Newsletter Editor
Kara Gansmann
Kara happily serves as Editor of the Air To Heart Newsletter. Kara’s husband, Mike, joined American Airlines in 2024. As a former UAL flight attendant, she’s no stranger to the airline industry.
Kara and Mike live in coastal North Carolina, raising a future second generation AA pilot. As an often-solo mom and wife, Kara expertly balances the challenges of raising a teenage son with a commuting pilot husband while also navigating the elusive “work-life balance” with her law practice. In her spare time, she plays a wicked game of tennis, enjoys non-rev travel, and has learned to successfully drive –and dock- their boat on her own.

Socials and Programs Chair
Amber Gentry
As the Social Chair for our foundation, my dedication lies in supporting American Airlines pilot spouses and domestic partners. While my background as an attorney includes time as a criminal prosecutor, my current focus is on nurturing our young family as we contribute to both the airline and the United States Air Force (Reserve.) I am thrilled about our foundation's mission to uplift and empower our members. From fostering social, educational, and charitable opportunities to providing crucial support in times of crisis, our organization aims to build a resilient and supportive community. Being involved in this initiative from its inception fills me with joy, as I believe it will profoundly impact the lives of spouses nationwide. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to serve our members and strengthen our bonds as a community.

Marketing | Webmaster
Katie Carrillo
A2H is beacon of light in the pilot families of American Airlines. I brought with me 16 years of advertising and marketing experience and education to design/develop the brand and website - to uphold what the Foundation stands for: Encourage, Support and Serve. I'm a USMC aviation wife, now Navy Reserves, and AA CA, and know a hub for families is always critical. The aviation life is fun but not without its kinks and nuances. I am incredibly happy to be a part of such amazing initiatives with those who've come before and are paving the way for families at American Airlines today. I hope to reach all spouses and partners of AA pilots and extend a familial arm. I own kpc creative agency and Tumbles FloMo, a kids gym, row and play soccer, and have 3 spritely kiddos, 4, 6, and 8 + a labsky doggo and Munchkin cat. God Bless this crazy life and amazing community!
